It was the tomb of the failed projects. When a project is about to fail, having burnt out most of the resources available, people said that the project is walking into the Desert of Night. The Desert of Night, thus, was a place of despair, where only the strongest can survive. Reflecting the symbolic meaning behind this metaphor, the organization Desert of Night loves choice and focus and believes that fast failures of worthless projects are essential for limited resources to be invested in valuable projects. They were desert bandits who plundered resources from projects they saw as worthless.
